The story behind Murano glass
Many centuries ago, many glassblowers were active in Venice. In the year 1291, however, they were forced to move to Murano. The island of Murano is beautiful, but the glassblowers couldn’t really enjoy it. They had to work hard from the Italian government to make the most beautiful glass works.
Today, the glass industry is still the largest and most important industry in Murano. The only difference between then and now is that Murano’s hard-working glassblowers now blow glass from their hearts. They are no longer forced to work hard, but see glassblowing as their passion.
