Cleaning vases? Sometimes vases are difficult to clean. But to enjoy your bunch of flowers for as long as possible, it is important to have a clean vase. So “How do you best clean a vase?” and that includes those difficult vases.
Vases often get dirty due to the deposits caused by flower food. In addition, flowers and branches often leave behind mold and dirty residues that are difficult to remove. If you want your flowers to last longer, it is important to remove the deposits. That can be done in different ways:
Cleaning vases with Chlorine
You can use chlorine to get your vase sparkling clean again. First fill the vase with lukewarm water and add a drop of chlorine. Let it soak well and then brush the vase clean with a dish brush. Tip: by adding a few drops of chlorine as standard to the water in which you put the flowers, you prevent bacterial growth.
Cleaning vases with Vinegar
A good alternative to chlorine is (kitchen) vinegar. Let this soak overnight and you will see that the deposits can then be easily removed from the vase.
Steradent
Effervescent tablets are just as effective. Fill the vase with an effervescent tablet, let it soak overnight and your vase will be clean the next day.
Rice and water
A vase with a narrow neck is difficult to clean, because you cannot easily get into it with a washing-up brush. The solution is to fill the vase halfway with warm water, a handful of uncooked rice and a handful of soda salt. Use a funnel or make one out of paper. Then place your hand on the opening of the vase and shake it. Rinse the vase with water and let it dry. You can also use lentils instead of rice.
